Help Petition For A Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show!

One of the live event staples of any year, the Super Bowl halftime show is infamous for performances by some of the music industry’s hottest performers including Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Prince and Madonna. But, if fans have their way, another name could be added to the list, that of Billboard chart topping artist and our dear friend, Weird Al Yankovic.

In a not-at-all bizarre twist, given the rabid fanbase the musician has gained over the decades, a fan campaign has been launched to make Weird Al the featured act at 2015’s NBC-hosted Super Bowl. The Change.com petition already features over 79,000 signatures since launching earlier this week, with the following message being sent to the NFL:

To:

NFL

Have Weird Al Yankovic headline the Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show.

Sincerely,

[Your name]

Clean, simple and to the point.

Honestly, there’s nothing we want to see more than Weird Al headlining the most watched television event in history. It’d be a real opportunity for the NFL to cater to all demographics because, as his new bestselling album Mandatory Fun indicated, Weird Al speaks to anyone and everyone, especially after his #8videos8days campaign that took the internet by storm last month.

So please, NFL, for all of us, take these signatures seriously as a real opportunity to speak to the masses at large. Make “Weird Al” your featured act at Super Bowl XLIX’s halftime show, for the betterment of mankind.

How much do you want to see a Weird Al Super Bowl halftime show? Let us know in the comments below, and  sign the petition brethren!

  5. Todd Slocum says:

If you took all of Al’s music from the years past and had cameos of just some of the people he has mocked it would be without a doubt the greatest live show ever, and i’m pretty sure all would be on board,,, this MUST HAPPEN….

  7. Michael says:

I think the petition will definately get the attention of the NFL now that it has more than 120000 signers, but he’s not going to be asked to play.  First of all, Al was not timely in the release of this album to coincide with this event, and secondly you got to have a top 40 hit song or it don’t happen. So if he don’t get one, it don’t matter, and it’s 20 times harder for a parodist to get a top 40 single than anyone else, so well see.  It’s possible, not probable.  However, Al has done that a couple times now so, who knows.

  8. Andy Bergman says:

I think if the NFL wants to continue to grow its brand then it has to take steps to include people not traditionally part of the usual fan base without alienating its loyal fans.  I think steps like this have already been taken with the introduction of pink jerseys to attract more female fans a few years back.  Weird Al could bring in more of the “nerd” population to the NFL. This could be a great thing, nerds commit more of their disposable income towards their interests than most others.  This could generate a lot of buzz talk and income for the NFL, and should be given a chance

  9. Eric Marley says:

Yes! Do this! Do it now! If you believe in the sanctity of the halftime show… please explain yourself. If you just want to have a good time with a ridiculous event, go with Al.

  10. Ryan Bogs says:

An American icon for Americas best game.
Get Weird Al on the Super Bowl!

  11. Debbie Zika says:

Please have Weird Al Yankovic as the halftime entertainment for the next Super Bowl!

  12. Claudine Roselle Puente says:

I would absolutely LOVE to see Weird Al Yankovic as part of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show.  He’s been in the music industry for over 35 years, and he hasn’t been featured in the Super Bowl?!  It’s loooooooong overdue!  You don’t have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions, and his content is PG Family Entertainment.  How can you go wrong?  Get that guy on stage, and let him strut his stuff.

  13. Please choose him!!!

  14. Donna Lloyd says:

you won’t need to worry about past embarrassment like wardrobe malfunctions or obscene gestures.

  15. Jon. schweichler says:

Please have him as half time

  16. Jennifer says:

    Weird Al Super Bowl show!!!!!!

  17. The Metal Pigeon says:

Is this the same Sean Pendergrass from Sportsradio 610 Houston? I didn’t realize Beyonce and The Black Eyed Peas were so stalwart in their football Xs and Os!

  18. Bonkers says:

Listen to “Sports Song” on his new album. It would be perfect!

  19. That’s Sean Pendergast, and I hate that SOB. I know at least 10 to 8% more about some types of sports than him , including hockey and track and field hockey.

  20. Michael says:

I agree with u on that.  Just let Weird play with HIS band.  Besides, how is he going to get Kurt Cobain to be there, or Prince anyway?

  21. Michael says:

He’s not going to get Coolio to take part as a secondary artist, and All About the Pentiums won’t happen.
