HELLBOY Will Return in a New Graphic Novel

Before he died and went to Hell, Mike Mignola‘s Hellboy was known as “the world’s greatest paranormal investigator.” And let’s just say that Hellboy lived a very bizarre as life as an agent of the B.P.R.D. for a few decades, and things became even stranger when he was off wandering the world by himself. Mignola wrapped up Hellboy in Hell earlier this year and he may have even given us a definitive end to Hellboy’s adventures. But that doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of him!

Hellboy will return next year in a new original graphic novel: Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea. Mignola will provide the cover and co-write the story with Gary Gianni, who will serve as the primary artist on the book with colorist Dave Stewart. The story picks up with Hellboy some time after “The Island,” a two-issue story published in 2005. Basically, it’s a flashback adventure. This time, Hellboy finds himself as the prisoner of a ghost ship’s crew. The greedy dead think that they can sell Hellboy to the circus, but the captain has other plans for him. Hellboy’s going on a sea monster hunt worthy of Moby-Dick, whether he wants to or not!

Hellboy Into The Silent Sea

“I imagine if Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea were a movie, the Hollywood hyperbole would describe it as Hellboy’s greatest adventure,” said Gianni in a statement released by Dark Horse Comics. “Yes… it’s Hellboy as you’ve never seen him before, laughing, loving and battling his way across the stormy seas! You’ll be thrilled as he faces cosmic forces terrorizing a haunted ship manned by a desperate crew! Be sure not to miss Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea, the biggest comic book event of the year!”

Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea will be released in spring 2017.
