Hear the DOCTOR STRANGE Score, and More Movie News

Today’s Movie Morsels is just as much a treat for the ears as it is the eyes. Because we have the brand-spanking-new end credits music for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which offers a first listen at the Sorcerer Supreme’s theme in his feature film debut! Plus, a look at one of the Reavers in Logan, four new videos from the set of Transformers: The Last Knight, and lots more…

Doctor Strange

No hero in the Marvel Universe has traveled to as many far-out realms and trippy dimensions as Stephen Strange. But while the trailers for the good doctor’s first feature film certainly indicate that Marvel Studios may have captured his universe visually, some of us have doubted whether the film would succeed on an aural level. After all, Marvel movies aren’t exactly known for their theme music. In fact, I’m hard-pressed to think of any fully satisfying, thoroughly hummable score to emerge from the MCU; with the possible exception of Patrick Doyle’s lush music for Thor. So let’s all give thanks to the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth, because Marvel has very wisely poached Pixar and Bad Robot composer Michael Giacchino to give Strange some music worthy of his legacy. Feasts your ears on this end credits track by the Oscar winner. It’s titled “The Master of the Mystic,” and it contains a theme/motif we’ll hear throughout the film. I’m especially thrilled to hear Giacchino has included some eastern instrumentation, most noticeably a sitar, to convey the scope of Strange’s journey…

Logan

Snikt! Wolverine will be facing a gang of villains well-known to long-time comic-book fans when Hugh Jackman makes his final screen appearance as the everyone’s favorite X-Man in Logan. The Reavers, cyborg mercenaries who made their debut back in May 1988’s Uncanny X-Men #229, will take on the Canadian mutie. They’ll be led by the evil Donald Pierce (played in the film by Boyd Holbrook, whom we recently had our first look at in Logan. Now we have a shot of one of his minions…

Transformers: The Last Knight

It’s a little scary how diligently Michael Bay has been posting set videos for his fifth Transformers film. With production in England now complete, we may finally see the alpha-male director slow down the steady stream of behind-the-scenes footage, but I somehow kind of doubt it. In any case, here’s the latest crop of vids, featuring the film’s medieval side, a first look at the returning Josh Duhamel in action with the movie’s marines, a London car chase, and even a revolving room set. Because it just isn’t a Michael Bay film unless characters are sliding through a collapsing building…

Peter Rabbit

ExMachinaGleesonMain

After Domhnall Gleeson earned our sympathy in Ex Machina (pictured above), he earned our scorn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And the Irish actor is through playing antagonists yet; in his next project he’ll essay the role of the foe of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit, Mr. McGregor. Yes, a live-action Gleeson will be chasing a CG-animated Peter voiced by James Corden from his garden. But don’t worry, Gleeson will also play a much more sympathetic figure of English children’s literature soon: author A.A. Milne in Fox Searchlight’s Winnie the Pooh.

Independence Day

Finally today… With Independence Day: Resurgence failing to lay waste to the box office this summer, the future of the alien invasion franchise is uncertain. Though in a new interview with Coming Soon promoting the film’s home video release, director Roland Emmerich indicates that the big screen’s loss could be the small screen’s gain, as an Independence Day TV show is now a possibility. Check out Emmerich’s remarks in the video below…
