Hear 2 More BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Songs, and More Movie News

Valentine’s Day may be over, but in today’s Movie Morsels we’ll try to keep the holiday spirit going just a bit longer for you with samples of two of the songs from the new live-action adaptation of Disney’s most romantic animated epic ever, Beauty and the Beast. Plus, a director is finally announced for the live-action Mulan, the first-ever clip from James Gunn’s The Belko Experiement arrives, and more sweet, sweet goodies…

Beauty and the Beast

In case anyone was harboring any doubt, Disney really wants us to be their guests on March 17th. The studio has provided excerpts of two of the yet unheard songs from its upcoming Beauty and the Beast–one original number and one old favorite. First off, we have an excerpt from Josh Groban’s new tune “Evermore”…

Then we’ve got a preview of the classic “Gaston” number in its live-action form, introduced by Luke Evans on Good Morning America. This brief excerpt can be seen and heard at the 2:44 mark in the following video…

Finally, we’ve got ourselves the film’s latest TV spot with stars Emma “Belle” Watson and Dan “Beast” Stevens…

Mulan

Mulan large

Hey, speaking of live-action adaptations of beloved Disney animated classics, the new Mulan has finally found its director: Whale Rider helmer Niki Caro. With this new gig, Caro is about to become the second woman to direct a film for Disney that costs over $100 million (after Ava DuVernay re: the developing A Wrinkle in Time). Congrats to Caro, and to my all fellow Mulan fans!

The Belko Experiment

While James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment is about as friggin’ far from the magical Disney musicals mentioned above as can be, it does have one connection to the Mouse House’s animated enchantment: it stars the voice of Disney’s Tarzan himself, Tony Goldwyn! Here’s the first clip from the film, which depicts the tension that’s slowly starting to mount among the employees of its titular company…

Avatar 2

Avatar

However one feels about James Cameron’s Avatar, it looks like we’re going to be hearing about its universe for some time to come, what with three sequels about to begin production. So those of you who aren’t fans, well, you have my condolences. As for the rest of you… In a new interview promoting his film The Shack, Sam Worthington had a few words to say about the future of his character Jake, and about how his story will soon become one about a family…

“This is going to be Jake eight years later, and he’s got a family now,” Worthington said. “The world is bigger than the first one, but essentially, it’s a movie about family. Jake will still have that essence of a kid seeing the world for the first time, but he’s been living in the world for a while now, so what’s this world he’s seeing now for the first time? The film will explore that within this family dynamic.”
