Head North of The Wall in GAME OF THRONES’ Video Homage to Belfast

The videos HBO is releasing for the fourth installation of Game of Thrones are heavy on the appreciation of its supporting players, particularly the artisans and behind-the-scenes folk who bring this massive production to life. And it’s a well-warranted affair, as evidenced by the videos released thus far. Because — surprise or not — creating the fantastical Westerosi (and beyond) landscapes featured on the series are a positively colossal undertaking.

And though this year’s batch of storylines required less of the all-over-the-place shooting than Location Manager Robert Boake is generally accustomed to in creating the series, it did mean more involved shooting in off-the-beaten path locales with harsh, extreme weather conditions. Luckily one of the series’ home bases — Belfast, Northern Ireland — provided enough variety and visual interest to make it the perfect home not only for The Wall, but places like Moletown, the Riverlands, the Dreadfort, and even the forge of the Red Keep. It’s a big production, bigger than any of the previous seasons, as seems to be the theme of the series heading into its April 6th return.
