HBO’s VINYL Cranks Up the Volume in First Teaser Trailer

Fresh off of his supporting turns in Ant-Man and Spy, Bobby Cannavale is returning to television next year as the star of HBO’s newest original series, Vinyl.

Boardwalk Empire creator and The Sopranos veteran Terence Winter has partnered up with director Martin Scorsese and The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger for Vinyl, a drama set during the ‘70s in New York City’s Rock ‘n’ Roll scene. Cannavale is playing Richie Finestra, a record executive at American Century, with Olivia Wilde as Richie’s wife, Devon Finestra; Ray Romano as Zak Yankovich; Max Casella as Julian “Julie” Silver; Juno Temple as Jamie Vine; P. J. Byrne as Scott Leavitt; and Ato Essandoh as Lester Grimes. Andrew Dice Clay, Jack Quaid, and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen also appear on the series.

As he did for Boardwalk Empire, Scorsese is directing the first episode of Vinyl. So, it’s no surprise the first teaser trailer for Vinyl has a very Scorsese feel that seems to invoke Goodfellas while introducing viewers to Richie and his inner circle. This is also the era when punk, disco, and hip-hop were just beginning to take shape. The story focuses on Richie’s quest to save his label without destroying himself and everyone else around him. Along the way, the first trailer seems to promise a lot of sex, drugs, mob violence, and some really awesome music.

Vinyl is slated to premiere on HBO in 2016.
