At one point or another, both Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have been looked at cock-eyed by Hollywood and viewers alike due to their eyebrow-raising off-screen antics. Whether it’s playing bongos naked or having a PR meltdown on a Reddit AMA, McConaughey and Harrelson have both taken their lumps. That being said, they are both proving themselves to be tour-de-force actors, worthy of your attention, and nowhere is that more evident than in this new trailer, aired last night before Boardwalk Empire, for HBO’s forthcoming series, True Detective, in which they play a pair of Louisiana cops in an environment full of murky weather and even murkier morality.
As you can see, this in an immensely creepy, unsettling world full of violent men, potentially corrupt cops, religious zealotry, and did we mention violence? âThe world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door,â McConaughey utters in what seems to be the prevailing maxim of the show. The eight episode, Cary Fukunaga-directed anthology series is set to air in January, but after seeing this trailer, I’m not so sure I can wait that long.
