HBO & Ommegang Re-Release GAME OF THRONES Beer

Praise be to the Many-Faced God, The Lord of Light, The Old Gods and the New because Ommegang is re-releasing the Game Of Thrones-inspired beers this fall.

After the immense success of previous batches, the Cooperstown NY-based brewery is re-releasing both the 6.5% ABV Iron Throne Blonde and the 7.0% ABV Take the Black Stout this year in a higher quantity than ever before.

Those of you familiar with the GOT brews may recall how these and the more recent Three-Eyed Raven were in such high demand that the brews flew off the shelves like, well, three-eyed ravens. This time around things are looking good for anyone, except Sparrows of course, to get their hands on the delicious libations.

“But what do they taste like?” you might ask as you clamber for your wallet while googling the nearest liquor store. Well Ommegang describes the Iron Throne Blonde Ale as having “a slightly hazy golden amber hue. The head is full and fluffy. The finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. The aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. The taste is lightly malty, rounded by honey malt sweetness.” Let’s go to the Tyrion Taste Test!

The Take the Black Stout (my personal favorite) is clearly a darker beer that’s “deep black in hue, with a full tan head. Aromas include dark chocolate, caramel malt, earthy hops, and a touch of fruitiness. Tastes include chocolate, dark coffee, and rich malt character. The beer has light, balanced roastiness aroma and taste. The clean hop bitterness converges with a slight woody character and spiciness. The finish offers sweet malt character giving way to spicy, earthy, hop bitterness.” Tyrion.. give it a shot.

While Tyrion judges which one he likes better you should also know the good – nay – GREAT news that this year the beers will be offered in a gift set with a bottle of each and a newly designed Ommegang and Game of Thrones glass featuring the logos in what we can only assume is Lannister gold. Tyrion, hows the tasting going?

Alright, take it easy. We’ll come back to you.

In late September, both brews will be available nationally in the gift set, so this year there’s a good chance every of-age Game Of Thrones fan will be able to plan their own Royal Wedding… err.. scratch that. Their own Red Wedding… nope. Their own relaxing stroll on the shores of Hardhome… ehhh.. Is there ever any gathering of people in the GOT universe that doesn’t result in some sort of tragedy? Well thankfully we’re not in that universe and can enjoy the beers without the fear of battle. Tyrion, whats the final verdict?

There you have it folks, looks like Tyrion approves but we also want to know how excited you are for the Ommegang brews! Let us know in the comments below!
