One of the things that makes BBC America and Temple Street Productions’ series Orphan Black so wonderful — besides Tatiana Maslany‘s complete transformation into multiple characters — is just how twisty the conspiracy mystery is. We’re never sure who to trust, and everybody could conceivably be hiding something from our favorite sestras, even the other sestras! Damn, it’s all so mysterious!
But if you’ve ever wanted to take a stab at figuring out such a mystery yourself, IDW Games can apparently help you. The company, which also has the comic books rights to Orphan Black, announced back in March that there would be a series of tabletop games coming out in the near future. They projected summer would see the release of the first game, but it ended up not coming out until now. The Orphan Black Card Game is based on deduction and secrecy, which is exactly what you want in a game about these characters.
Three to six players are secretly assigned to one of three factions: the Proletheans, Neolutionists, or the Bird Watchers. The goal of each player is to try to persuade clones to join them while trying to figure out who your opponents are working for. It seems exceptionally paranoid and will probably make you not trust any of your friends ever again (we’re guessing). It’s a game that rewards duplicity in the best way; if you can influence your targets while keeping your friends guessing, you win!
The game is available for order though Cool Stuff Inc. and looks to be slated for release any time now, though a specific date is not given. But, for under $20 and sounding like a whole lot of fun, it’s probably going to be worth a little more wait.
