HARRY POTTER’s Best Hogwarts House Honored in “Hufflepuff Puff Pass” Rap Parody

It hasn’t always been easy being a Hufflepuff. We of the badger conclave have long endured the wizarding equivalent of side-eye (oculus shadius, if I’m remembering correctly) for our deficit of Gryffindor-caliber bravery, Ravenclaw-caliber smarts, or Slytherin-caliber menacing speeches about world domination. But what we’ve always lacked in observable physical and intellectual prowess, we’ve made up for in earnest bonfire sing-alongs about why it’s okay to be imperfect. And finally, we’re getting our rightful due!

This past year has seen an upswing in Hufflepuff pride like never before. First and foremost: the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the account of famed cryptozoologist Newt Scamander. Not only is Newt a proud bannerman of the yellow and black, but likewise actor Eddie Redmayne himself, as professed in an appropriately heartfelt video monologue. Also this year, we saw the Off-Broadway world welcome the comedy stage play Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic—a magnificent tribute to the heroism of the unheroic.

And last but not least, we have the new rap parody “Hufflepuff Puff Pass,” by songwriter and performer Chris Bramante, a.k.a. Amontiock, whom some of you may know as a member of Robot Teammate over on Alpha (and Geek & Sundry’s Twitch Channel!). The song and video, which you can watch above, details the many, many strong suits of the Hufflepuff House, ditto the great names to spawn therefrom: Newt, Pomona Sprout, Hengist of Woodcroft, the Fat Friar, and—heavy sigh—the great Cedric Diggory. Give the ditty a listen, as it’s sure to imbue any member of Hogwarts’ least appreciated house with a long overdue sense of triumph. And if you like the song that much, you can purchase it (support fellow ‘Puffs) over at Bandcamp.

Share your own elegies of Hufflepuff pride in the comments!
