HARRY POTTER Fans Make Hogwarts Comes to Life with Pages from the Books

Peter Heacock and Joan Kamberaj are animators over at unPop, and self-confessed J.K. Rowling megafans. So naturally, the pair spent a month painstakingly creating a stop-motion short film in which a miniature Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry constructs itself from the pages of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Um, yeah. If you think it sounds rad, wait till you see the video above.

The way the entire building comes to life in these crinkled pages is mesmerizing, and the fact that we’re allowed to hear the rolls of the paper as well adds to the experience of watching it. Kudos to musician Gretchen Lohse for her lullaby cover of the Harry Potter theme; it gives the film a whimsical, playful feeling. Also, we love that the animators dedicated their project to J.K. Rowling, it makes the whole thing feel very personal.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is more of an institution than it is a book series now, having encouraged fans to make their own butter beer and honeyduke sweets, construct magic wands, play Quiddich (at University of all places), engage in theories about Dumbledore’s death, dye their hair red like Ron Weasley… the list is endless. We don’t know what’ll be next, but we’re grateful for the attention to detail that went into this film. It’s a Hogwarts we’d love to visit.

What about you? Did the film capture your wildest imagination? Let us know in the comments below.
