Hanks, Spielberg, and the Coens Team-Up in New BRIDGE OF SPIES Trailer

When Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg collaborate, it should not only pique your interest, but have you marking your calendar for the release date. Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can, and The Terminal are all great films. They also worked together on the HBO companion mini-series Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

With that resume, how could they possibly takes things one step further? Oh, that’s easy. Use a script co-written by Joel and Ethan Coen. The result of this Avengers-level team up can be seen this fall in the Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies.

Based on the true story of the 1960 U-2 incident, Hanks plays lawyer James B. Donovan, who is recruited by the CIA to negotiate the release of Spy Pilot Francis Gary Powers, who was shot down and captured while flying over Soviet airspace.

From the trailer, it looks like the plot will revolve around the trade of Powers for captured Soviet spy Rudolph Abel, as well as the scrutiny Donovan and his family go through by representing what, during that time, can only be seen as the mortal enemy of the United States.

Bridge of Spies also stars Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, and Alan Alda. Playwright Matt Charman helped co-write the script. It is scheduled for release on October 16th, 2015.

What did you think of the trailer? Are you happy to see Hanks and Spielberg teaming up again? Are you still holding an eight year grudge over Crystal Skull?* Let me know on Twitter or in the comments below.
