Ever since we learned that the current season of Parenthood would be the show’s last, we’ve been sadly counting the days to the show’s sure to be tearful goodbye. Well folks, the time has come, as next Thursday will mark the series finale of what could arguably be called Jason Katims’ masterpiece. (Feel free to debate this among the likes of Friday Night Lights in the comments below.)

Thus far, the current season has taken us on a serious emotional ride that includes Amber learning she was pregnant, Crosby and Adam having problems at The Luncheonette and, most importantly, Zeek hitting a serious downturn in person health. And that last one is what brings us to today’s clip in which Hank, who recently proposed to Sarah after Zeek suffered a medical emergency, goes to the head Braverman for his marriage blessing:

We can already feel the heart strings being tugged even in just this two minute clip.

It’s hard to imagine how the writers intend to pay off every single character in a satisfying way come this Thursday, but it was a good sign this past week when we saw the Amber and Julia/Joel arcs come to a mostly conclusion heading into the finale. It means there won’t be as much wrangling that needs to be done as we see the return of past Bravermans including Haddie, who was last seen in the previous season finale and is confirmed to be returning for the final episode.

It’ll probably be a long time before broadcast television ever has a show like Parenthood on its airwaves again. A show with the extreme low-concept, difficult to market and highly intricate plot of following the life of a single family through three generations. It was a wild ride and we can’t wait to see how it all comes to an end this Thursday.
