HANG ‘EM HYRULE Makes LEGENDS OF ZELDA Into a Spaghetti Western Revenge Tale

Beat Down Boogie’s newest video takes the classic characters of the Legend of Zelda series and places them into a spaghetti western setting. Following that classic style, the short film tells a simple story of revenge as Zelda wanders into town, looking to settle a score with Ganondorf. And as it turns out, the team over at Beat Down Boogie really did their homework on this one. While they pride themselves on making fun and funny videos based around games, Hang ‘Em Hyrule embraces the concept it offers to the core. Of course the idea is still humorous in execution, but isn’t tongue-in-cheek funny like a lot of their other videos.

Everything that makes the video what it is—the widescreen presentation, the costuming, the camera angles and framing, the drawn out back-and-forth before the shootout—plays well into its themes. The story is also quite a welcome change of pace, as we get to see Zelda be the one challenging Ganondorf instead of needing to be saved by Link—well, until the end of the video rolls around and that exact thing happens. I wouldn’t let that ruin your enjoyment of seeing a tiny western story set in Hyrule, though: it is still an amazingly made video.

Beat Down Boogie also stays faithful to their Legend of Zelda material by creating something that does not use a single word of dialogue. Of course, it would have been great to hear a “HEY-YEH!” from Link as he deals the final shot to seal their victory. But hey: good thing is still good.
