HAMILTON’s Lin-Manuel Miranda Rap Battles on THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JIMMY FALLON

If you’ve been anywhere near musical theater, the news, or New York City in the last six months, you have heard of Hamilton, the rap opera that has taken the country by storm. The brainchild of musical maestro Lin-Manuel Miranda, the show tells the story American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton with the most talented and diverse cast that has ever graced the stages of the Great White Way. Miranda’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon only cemented his reputation as reigning king of entertainment in this city. Check out the wonderful freestyle rap battle above.

The great coup of Hamilton‘s meteoric rise to the top of the Broadway pecking order is at least partially thanks to the incredible talent of Miranda who wrote the book, music, and lyrics of the show. It would be wholly his due, but you can’t deny that the gorgeously talented cast has something to do with it too. He seamlessly wove history and fiction together with ridiculously catchy lyrics and rhythm to create the most addictive Original Broadway Cast soundtrack in a generation. Seriously, go out and buy a copy yourself. I bet you money you will wake up tomorrow morning singing “Satisfied” or “Story of Tonight”. In fact, I’ve already promised my editors that simply by writing this piece, I will wake up singing the songs tomorrow morning. (Editor’s note: She did. And she will.)

As usual, Jimmy Fallon found a wonderful way to blend the talents of his guest with his resources on the stage for this epic rap battle between Miranda and Tariq Trotter of The Roots. He also threw in a twist of fun because it wouldn’t be late night television without a little whimsy. And now, I will go to sleep smiling over ditties with pancakes, Darth Vader, and more running through my head. They will make for a nice precursor to the soundtrack I’m sure I’ll wake up humming, at the very least.

Please, go out and get Hamilton: The Original Broadway Cast Recording. Tweet me at @bookoisseur to tell me how much you love it and which song you can’t stop singing.
