If patriotic rap musicals are your thing, and paying 80 bajillion dollars for a trip to New York City and a nigh-ungettable theatre ticket is not your thing, then you’ve got some good news today. Hamilton, the show that has everyone in the whole wide world raving, will be embarking on a national tour in the coming months. The musical, with music, lyrics, and book by star wunderkind Lin-Manuel Miranda about the life and death of founding father Alexander Hamilton (the fella on the $10 bill), has been playing to sell-out houses since it premiered in 2015. In fact, it’s been the talk of everyone from your cool cousin Paige to your out-of-touch great-aunt Norma.
The show was already scheduled to play an open-ended run in Chicago in the Fall, will begin a separate national tour in 2017, beginning in San Francisco, moving to Los Angeles (hey, that’s where I live!) and then on to other cities. So if you want to check it out but don’t want to head to the Big Apple, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to do so. The Chicago run begins in September of this year, then to San Francisco for 21 weeks in March of 2017, and culminating in Los Angeles from August 11 to December 13.
This is great news, though the downside is you will still have to go to New York to see Miranda himself play the title role, but you probably never got to see Angela Lansbury in Sweeney Todd or the Chenoweth/Menzel faction in Wicked, so you’ll probably still like it, whoever you see.
