HALF-LIFE’s Gordon Freeman and PORTAL’s Chell Battle for Cake

Look out! The cake is always lie.

Gordon Freeman Cake

If there’s one thing that’s universally acknowledged, it’s Valve’s fear of the number 3. Fans have been waiting for the rumored Half-Life 3, Portal 3, Team Fortress 3, and Left 4 Dead 3 for so long now that the mere existence of the titles has become the butt of many a joke. But, did you ever stop to wonder if maybe the reason we haven’t seen any new entries is because the developer has a massive crossover game planned? No? Well, I have, and apparently so did filmmaker Andrew McMurry…sort of. See what I mean in his epic Portal vs. Half-Life short film above.

If anything, the video creatively depicts what might go down if Chell, armed with her handy Portal Gun, and Gordon Freeman, clad in his HEV suit and armed with his infamous Gravity Gun, duked it out for a piece of cake. Seeing the duo use their various tricks and gadgets to best each other was also pretty intriguing. The protagonists work well enough together that throwing them in a game or even a silent film (heh) together would be a lot of fun.

Gordon Box Smash

Aside from the boundless possibilities the video suggests, it features several nods to the source material that any fan of the respective series would appreciate. Seeing Gordon eat cake with a crowbar, and stop mid-battle to smash boxes, were certainly highlights for me. Also, the fact that they’re fighting over cake in the first place is hilarious in and of itself especially, you know, because the cake is a lie. GLaDOS even makes a short voice cameo at the end.

What did you think of the video? Who do you think would win in a battle between Chell and Gordon?  Let us know in the comments!
