HALF-LIFE and PORTAL Films Reportedly Still in the Works

GDC has officially kicked into high gear which means news is hitting the web faster than usual. Luckily, we’re here to gather some of the stories you may have missed. In today’s Gaming Daily, J.J. Abrams confirms that Half-Life and Portal films are still in the works, Bethesda released a new trailer and more information for the upcoming Fallout 4 DLC, there’s a rumor going around that Devil May Cry 5 might be announced soon, Microsoft teases possible cross play with PS4, and a recently penalized Street Fighter V “rage-quitter” has fought his way to the 29th spot.

Half Life 3 Dance

Half-Life and Portal films still in development.

Half-Life 3 confirmed? Wait…nope. While we’re still waiting on an actual Half-Life 3 confirmation (which probably isn’t going to happen in the near future), there was some interesting Half-Life-related news that hit the web today. During a recent interview with the folks at IGN, J.J. Abrams revealed that there are indeed film projects in the works for both Half-Life and Portal.

Though the conversation mostly revolved around 10 Cloverfield Lane (which Abrams produced) the interviewer briefly touched on the projects, asking if the director/producer had a status update.  He answered, “Not yet, but they’re in development. And we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update.”

The projects were first hinted at when Valve co-founder Gabe Newell and Abrams joined forces during the DICE 2013 Summit to chat about storytelling across platforms. During the presentation, they both expressed interest in working together on film and video game projects in the future. While Abrams statement doesn’t provide any specific details, it is great to hear that the films are still in the works.

Bethesda releases trailer for Fallout 4: Automatron DLC.

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting Fallout 4‘s first DLC: Automatron (which releases on March 22), I have some good news. Bethesda revealed more information and dropped a brand new trailer! According to the developer’s remarks in a recent press release,  you’ll be able to hunt down and harvest robot parts “to build and mod your own custom robot companions. Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons such as the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices! (For characters level 15 or higher.)” Check out the trailer above for a taste of what’s to come!

DMC 5 Actors

Devil May Cry 5 rumors surface.

Though there’ve been Devil May Cry 5 rumors circulating for a while now, a recent image posted by actor Johnny Yong Bosch (who played Nero in Devil May Cry 4) to his Facebook page has kindled fans’ excitement. Though the picture has since been removed, folks around the web were able to snag it before it was taken down. Check it out above.

Just in case you’re not familiar with them, that’s Bosch and Reuben Langdon (who played Dante) clad in mocap suits. Of course, the image doesn’t necessarily mean the game is happening; they could be working on another project altogether; but it does add weight to the rumors we’ve been hearing.

According to the folks at Gameblog.fr, independent sources have confirmed that the game is being developed. But, until we receive word from Capcom, we won’t know whether that is indeed true. With GDC happening this week, and E3 a couple of months away, anything is possible.

Xbox One and PS4 Controller

Xbox Rep hints at the possibility of cross-play with PS4 players.

Microsoft made headlines today when they announced cross-network play for the Xbox One and Windows 10. While that’s great, the real meat of the announcement came when director of ID@Xbox, Chris Charla, teased that players on Xbox One could potentially play online with folks on different consoles (like the PS4). Sony has yet to make a statement regarding that reveal, but it’s an interesting feature to ponder. Cross-play is a feature Sony has implemented several times, so I could definitely see it happening.

Street Fighter V

Recently penalized Street Fighter V “rage quitter” rises back to the top.

A couple of weeks ago, Capcom addressed Street Fighter V‘s rage-quitting problem, and announced that perpetrators would be punished. As a result, over 30 “rage-quitters” had their League Points reset, dropping them down to the bottom of the World Ranking list. According to recent reports, one of the players, who goes by World_Combo, has made up for lost points and risen all the way up the world ranking list to number 29.

After losing over 10,000 League Points, World_Combo had dropped from Platinum Ranking all the way down to bronze. For those who weren’t already aware, the player (who hails from Japan) was the among the first batch of players who reached the Super Platinum league in Street Fighter V‘s ranking system. Despite the fact that he clearly cheated, climbing the ranks (he currently sits at just under 8,000 LP) all the way to spot #29 demonstrates just how skilled he is.
