H2O’S Toby Morse Goes Hardcore on a Pumpkin on SLOW-MO DESTRUCTO

Mondays used to mean a hard slap in the face. They tore us from our weekends of freedom and comfort and forced us to return to the bleak grey world of the workweek. But that was in the before time, when Mondays weren’t colorful and exciting. These days, Mondays mean celebrities crush things in slow motion, often with a big ol’ oversized hammer. That’s right, it’s time for another edition of our very own Monday tradition and Japanese game show: Slow-Mo Destructo!

This time host and silly suit connoisseur, Nerdist’s very own Dan Casey, was joined by Toby Morse from the hardcore punk band H2O. As always, the fact that the entire show is performed in Japanese posed somewhat of a problem for the guest, as Morse had no idea what Dan was saying. Or what was happening. And especially why any of it was happening.

After getting Dan’s initial question wrong (presumably—I also don’t speak Japanese), to the big wheel Morse went! Though, and I’ve seen every episode of Slow-Mo Destructo many, many times at this point, I have no idea what the wheel does. You think it might have something to do with what gets smashed by that hammer, but I’m almost positive it doesn’t. The pumpkin was already there people. The pumpkin was already there.

But unsolved mysterious aside, this week’s swing of the hammer might be the most satisfying one yet. Not only did the first episode of October (Nerdoween y’all!) see a pumpkin go “Pow!”, it was a very special type of pumpkin, and it exploded like the elevator doors full of blood opening up in The Shining.

(If you’d like to know how you can get your very own pumpkin like that, it’s not as hard as you think. Just grow your very own pumpkin patch in the soil of an abandoned Native American burial ground, preferably one that is also used as a pet cemetery. It’s the only way to really make sure you get that blood-spatter to look right.)

As for Morse, he was on to promote H2O’s most recent album, last year’s Use Your Voice, the band’s seventh studio album. Normally guests only have to be confused for a couple minutes, wear a yellow rain suit, and have a guy dressed in something silly squirt them with some kind of liquid. Morse had to go through a little more, though, incurring quite a choice encounter with the giant Foot-Man and his bucket of green goo.

Toby Morse is a good sport and a good man, so please, go out and get a copy of Use Your Voice. He took a goo-bucket to the head for our enjoyment, so it’s the least you could do. Think about how much better Mondays are now because of people like him, and because of Slow-Mo Destructo!

What did you think of this week’s episode? Where does this suit rank on your favorites Dan has worn? What about the pumpkin, was that the best “destructo” moment yet? Don’t be slow, hurry into our comments section below to tell us what you think, before you get hit in the head with a bucket.
