Earlier this week, Guillermo del Toro shared the bad news that we’ve been dreading to hear: despite conversations on the subject with comic book creator Mike Mignola and actor Ron Perlman, there is absolutely no chance that he will direct Hellboy 3. However, there is a reason for del Toro fans to be happy this week. The famed director has been slowly releasing never-before-seen bios of his characters from Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim on Twitter. These documents offer many rich details that never made it to the screen, and they even managed to create sympathy for Crimson Peak‘s most dangerous character.
The first bio that del Toro released was for Lucille Sharpe, the role played by Jessica Chastain in Crimson Peak. Within that film, Lucille had a murderous streak and an extremely unhealthy affair with her bother Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). Lucille was definitely among del Toro’s most frightening villains, but the newly released biography documents humanized her in an unexpected way. Lucille was still a monster, but now we can more fully understand how she came to be that way.
Ok. You asked for it (uncorrected document) the first 4 pages of LUCILLE’s biography for Crimson. Let’s see if it works. pic.twitter.com/AQWsiSPY55

Del Toro was true to his word, and followed up with the bio for Crimson Peak‘s Edith Cushing, which had also had a second part. Then del Toro canceled the apocalypse by sharing the backstory of Stacker Pentecost, the character memorably portrayed by Idris Elba in Pacific Rim.

Del Toro followed that up with additional Pacific Rim bios for Mako Mori and Raleigh Becket. He also promised to search for the bios from some of his earlier films, including Cronos, The Devil’s Backbone, and Pan’s Labyrinth. We can’t wait to see what else he has in store for us!
