Today we’ll be delving into some spooky Pokémon theories, checking out an alternative to this weekend’s sports festivities, and even witnessing someone complete Jonathan Blow‘s latest title fairly quickly. Let’s get right to it.

In today’s Gaming Daily, it was revealed that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be discussing their creative vision at the DICE summit, The Dan Cave dives into the craziest Pokémon theories, the second annual Square Bowl incoming, a speedrunner completes The Witness in under 26 minutes, and The Witness raked in over $5 million in gross revenue.

Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are teaming up again! Unfortunately, it’s only for a speech. These two masterminds will be coming together at the DICE summit this year to give a speech about their creative visions. The official announcement came today via the organizers of the event.

These two will share the stage at the DICE keynote, and will be moderated by Geoff Keighley on February 18.

“This conversation will revisit some of their fondest memories from their own individual careers as well as some of the pivotal moments from each other’s work that remain a constant source of inspiration,” claim the summit’s organizers. These two have created so many iconic worlds and experiences, so you’ll definitely want to tune into this speech.

Despite their Silent Hills creation being cancelled, I still have hope these two will collaborate on a project in the near future. Together, they could create something incredibly special–which was made obvious by what they did with P.T.

The Dan Cave tackles the craziest Pokémon theories.

All this time you thought Pokémon games were just for kids. Well, you’re wrong. Have you ever heard of the morbid theories surrounding the series? This week’s The Dan Cave delved into the most insane Pokémon theories, including the possibility of all non-elderly adults being dead because of a great war. There’s even a case to be made that you’re a murderer in the game. Don’t believe me? Take a gander at the clip above.

Square Enix hosting second annual Square Bowl.

Don’t care about grown men fighting over the pigskin?  If you’re not into sports, and don’t care about the Super Bowl, Square Enix might just have the thing for you. The publisher/developer has announced the second annual Square Bowl. No, I’m not talking about a square shaped dish for your food. I’m talking about a 48-hour event to benefit the Able Gamers charity. Game developers Teddy Dief (Hyper Light Drifter) and Adriel Wallick (Train Jam) will be hosting a live stream where you can watch them play Final Fantasy VIII. Special developer guests will also be making an appearance.

On top of being a great alternative to watching the big game, you’ll be supporting a good cause. But, you could always just join the Super Bowl festivities with friends, and bring your laptop to keep up with the Square Bowl. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Speedrunner completes The Witness in less than 26 minutes.

A speedrunner has completed The Witness in 25 minutes and 53 seconds. Yes, the brain-busting game with seemingly never-ending puzzles was no problem for YouTuber Azorae. Even though he’d clearly played it before and memorized the the puzzles, it was still mighty impressive. The game has only been available for a little over a week, so his record is nothing to scoff at. Because not every puzzle included in the game has to be completed in order to see the credits roll, Azorae believes he can find an even shorter route to the end of the title. The Witness is selling well.

How well you ask? Jonathan Blow claims The Witness has sold over 100,000 copies, bringing in $5 million in gross revenue. The game barely launched last week! Blow also confirmed that his newest title actually sold more units in a week than Braid did in a year.

He couldn’t go into the specifics about the numbers, but he does mention that both the PC and PS4 versions are selling well.

Despite the stellar sales, the game has yet to break even. Yes, that’s a bit surprising, but once you boot up the game, you realize just how massive this adventure really is. That my friends, is not cheap to create. But, considering how well it has already sold, there’s no reason it shouldn’t make the developer some cash. “As time goes on, we should break even and make a comfortable safety margin on top of that, which will allow us to make more nice games in the future—unless some kind of world economic disaster happens,” Blow wrote in a blog post.

Though many, including myself, were worried this game would bomb because of the $40 price tag, it looks like we were completely wrong. Even a rampant pirating of the PC version has apparently not slowed this game down.

Personally, I’m stoked about this news. In a time where sequels and HD remasters are the norm, it’s great to watch such an inspired project do well. We need developers to take more chances with their games in order for this industry to keep evolving.
