Guillermo del Toro Will Co-Write SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK

Our favorite thing about Guillermo del Toro — you know, aside from his immeasurable talent, endless depth of knowledge, and ability to scare the pants off of each and every one of us in the Nerdist family — is how he’s always got something cooking. And while he won’t be directing the follow up to his kaiju/robot brainchild Pacific Rim, we’re learning that one of his many other projects, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (based on the nightmare fuel that was Alvin Schwartz’s series of children’s books), has some writers, with some pretty “awesome” credits.

UPDATE, 4/27/2018 – The latest bit of news from The Hollywood Reporter is that del Toro himself will be co-writing Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with screenwriters Dan and Kevin Hagemen, who had previously worked on the brilliance that was 2014’s The LEGO Movie, and also worked with the Crimson Peak director on his Netflix and DreamWorks animated series Trollhunters.

Del Toro will likewise produce the new feature, though directing duties will fall to André Øvredal, director of a completely separate Trollhunter movie (if you can believe that), as well as The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

The Hageman brothers have also worked on the script for the upcoming Ninjago movie in the expanded LEGO franchise, as well as Hotel Transylvania, so they’re well-versed in writing for a younger audience with a hint of horror. Let us know what you think about a Scary Stories movie. What were your favorites from the Alvin Schwartz books? To the comments with you all!
