Gudetama Sushi Is Everything We Dreamed Of And More

It’s impossible not to love Gudetama. Sanrio’s lazy egg character is not just adorable; he has his own themed menu and cleans up after himself… and that’s after he poops and vomits. Eggs are so crazy, am I right?

Gudetama’s lackadaisical attitude is so inspiring that he’s become the go-to character for tempting bento treats. Sure, part of it has to do with his simplicity and all around resting breakfast face but that’s where the irony comes in. Taking the time to painstakingly make a piece of food to look like a lethargic egg is something Gudetama would despise.

Food blogger LittleMissBento has created a bunch of adorable edible eats and her Gudetama sushi is a thing of beauty. Using egg to make an egg just makes sense, so she starts with tamagoyaki, a Japanese rolled egg omelette. She cuts that into 4 servings to make four little Gudetamas to lazily lay on balls of rice.

Seaweed, the holy grail of bento ingredients, is used to detail Gudetama’s eyes and mouth while his feet and arms were cut from even more tamagoyaki.

As tasty as these little gude tamagos are, it’s hard to eat something so adorable. His sad face looking back despondently, as if to say, “Don’t eat me — it’s not worth it.” Unfortunately for him, lazy eaters we are not. These small, sluggish sushi will meet their end in the most delicious way possible. Thank you for your sacrifice, Gudetama.
