GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Deleted Scene Gives Drax and Gamora No Respect

This week, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is getting a digital release, which includes a few scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut of the film. In the movie, Kurt Russell’s Ego tracked down Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and introduced himself as Peter’s long lost dad. Ego claimed to have become aware of Peter’s exploits circa the conclusion of the first movie, when the newly formed Guardians defeated Ronan the Accuser. However, Ego’s account of that battle differs from what actually happened.

Yahoo! Movies has debuted a deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which features Peter, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Drax (Dave Bautista) shortly after their arrival on Ego’s planet. In the clip, Ego unveils a hilarious statue that he made in tribute to Peter’s triumph at Xandar, while downplaying the role of his teammates. Note that the effects are unfinished in this clip, which is also why Mantis (Pom Klementieff) doesn’t have her signature antenna.

Somehow, Ego combined Rocket and Drax into a single diminutive sidekick, while transforming Gamora into Star-Lord’s awestruck lover. Groot’s appearance in the statue was also very amusing, as was Drax’s initial belief that the statue depicted the Guardians killing him instead of Ronan. The context of the clip doesn’t quite make it clear if Ego was truly ignorant about the facts, or if he was simply playing into his son’s vanity. Either way, it appears to have worked.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on Digital HD on Tuesday, August 8, with a DVD and Blu-ray release to follow on August 22.
