GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Blu-ray Gets a Retro 80s Commercial

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Blu-ray Gets a Retro 80s Commercial

Both Guardians of the Galaxy films utilize retro soundtracks to perfection, and as they say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That might be why Marvel Entertainment’s new commercial for the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray of Vol. 2 is their latest done in the style of a classic throwback ’80s paid advertisement.

We came across this new promo at io9, and it hits all the right notes for anyone that grew up seeing those ridiculous commercials for compilation records and album sets. If you are too young to remember them, just know that’s really how people used to dress. Honestly, that sweater over the shoulders thing was a socially acceptable look. Olden times were weirder than a talking baby tree.

Despite its parody premise, the promo does tell us what kinds of extras we can expect from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s DVD (a music video with the Hoff!), but we were really curious about that phone number.

So we called, and it works. While the phone number’s primary focus is to send you to the GOTGJams.com webpage they list (somehow our favorite anachronism in an ’80s promo for a 4k Ultra HD movie), there is a nice reward for those that push “1” at the end of the call.

You can pre-order the film now, with the digital download out on August 8th, and the DVD and Blu-rays out on August 22nd.

This commercial is so good maybe we can talk Marvel into continuing their winning strategy by using ’80s level prices for this DVD. If it ain’t broke…
