Groot Speaks in New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Trailer

We’re going to be hearing “Hooked on a Feeling” a lot this summer, aren’t we?

Here’s why the second trailer for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy works (and why I’m confessing to being in the bag for this movie already): for a movie about a gun-toting raccoon and a talking tree, it knows the meaning of “restraint.” I’ll elaborate more on this after you take a look at the trailer:

Without (apparently) spoiling the primary action of the film while giving us a tantalizing look at villain Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), it’s already got me onboard thanks to a of handful of quirky moments with its characters without over explaining what the film is about (or overstaying its welcome). We broadly know that the galaxy is in danger and that our anti-heroes will have to guard it. See, all right there in the title, plus a sweet, talking tree.

Expanding the Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) opposite Korath (Djimon Honsou) temple scene from the first trailer, Marvel offers up a better look at some of the Nova Corps and its leader Nova Prime Rael (Glenn Close), along with more of Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Gamorra (Zoe Saldana), and Drax (Dave Bautista) in action.

If I have one gripe, it’s that we didn’t get more dialog out of Saldana’s most dangerous woman in the galaxy, who I’m not-so-secretly hoping will be a breakout character like Black Widow for Marvel’s cosmic corner of their cinematic universe.

I guess we’ll find out when Guardians of the Galaxy is in theaters on August 1st.

  1. Amazing that they did this movie with only a $12k budget! Pretty much all of it went to Vin Diesel asking for AD&D supplements.

  2. Jenner says:

Well I guess we will see how this goes. This movie can either be a good action comedy or a campy mess like Green Lantern turned out to be. I want it to be good don’t get me wrong; however, action comedies are hard to pull off without a good script and direction. I just don’t take things at face value anymore or mindlessly buy into the hype. Just because the trailer looks good doesn’t mean the movie will be the same. I was excited for ‘Iron Man 3’ because the trailer was awesome and I bought into the hype because of it, only to be horribly disappointed with how that movie turned out. I have become very guarded with comic book adaptations since then. John C. Reilly said it the end of the trailer “They call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy, this might not be the best idea.” With any luck those words will not turn out to be prophetic.
