Greetings From Westeros… er, Dubrovnik

In case you’re interested in a little background on the production of the next season of Game of Thrones, HBO’s posted the latest in a series of short production videos. This one’s short on anything specific to show content — you’ll see some of the requisite shots of scenes being filmed and crews and actors hovering about — but long on beauty shots of the shooting locations. They’re having a wonderful time and you wish you were there. They’re also shooting in the snow in Iceland, which I’m sure is beautiful but I’d probably go with sun and the Adriatic over snow covering volcanic ash.

The season premiere is set for April 1st on HBO in the U.S. and April 2nd on Sky Atlantic in the U.K.

If you ever get a chance to travel to Dubrovnik, there’s a little bar that you can get to through a hole in the old city fortifications and is just nestled up against the sheer cliffs descending from the city walls into the Adriatic. Amazingly atmospheric and incredibly beautiful. Also, the kayaking tours they give off the coast of the city are cheap and give a stunning view of some of the coastal wilderness.
