Green Day Robs a Bank in Their Music Video for “Bang Bang”

Green Day Robs a Bank in Their Music Video for “Bang Bang”

It’s been four years since Green Day released their 2012 trilogy of studio albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!, but our days will soon be green again when the band releases Revolution Radio, on October 7. Even though we don’t hear from them as often as we used to, Green Day is still a group that feels important when they do put out something new for us, so when they released the energetic (as always) new single “Bang Bang” last month, we were totally into it.

We’re also feeling the new music video the band just shared for the track, exclusively on their Facebook page (and you can watch it below).

Directed by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong , the clip goes back and forth between Green Day performing at a house party, and a trio of robbers donning Green Day masks holding up a bank and getting away with cash. We half-expected them to pull the masks off and it be Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool (it wasn’t), but the two scenes from the video do meet in the end, as the thieves bring the bills to make it rain at the band’s house show.

Green Day has never shied away from politics in their music, especially not during this election season with “Bang Bang,” on which they address the notoriety achieved by perpetrators of shootings and crimes of that nature: “Bang, bang, give me fame / Shoot me up to entertain / I am a semi-automatic lonely boy / You’re dead, I’m well fed.”

Watch the video for “Bang Bang” below, and rejoice at the forthcoming return of possibly the most enduring pop-punk band.
