GREASE LIVE was Insanely, Impressively Complicated Behind the Scenes

Some of you out there may not be musical theater nerds. That’s OK—different strokes for different folks, etc. But there is no denying the incredible feat FOX pulled off with Grease Live! when it premiered over the weekend. Especially when you actually get to glimpse just how complicated and technical the behind-the-scenes aspects were to actually pull the dang thing off. Thankfully, a new video from the folks involved shows off the impressive feat.

This is most evidenced in the video Carrie Havel, Associate Director of the whole shebang, shared. Working through director Alex Rudzinski’s shot numbers and camera moves, Havel needed to not only keep on top of all of that, she had to do it in time with the music. It’s hard to put into words how on-the-ball Havel had to be to pull this off, so click the image below and watch the video play all the way through the performance of “Greased Lightnin’.”

I mean, c’mon, right? If you thought the high-energy, nonstop movement was only happening on-screen? Think again, my friends. Think again!

And that’s not even taking into consideration just how huge the whole production was. Organized across several stages and even a few outdoor sections of the WB backlot, it was a constant hustle for the actors to even get from one scene to the next (again, click the below image for the video to play):

Did you watch Grease: Live!? What’d you think of this versus the other live musicals we’ve seen the past few years? Let us know in the comments below.
