Well here’s one that’ll leave you shocked: following the conclusion the show’s latest season, Discovery has announced that Grant Imahara, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci, better known as the M7 Build Team, will no longer be featured on the network’s hit series, MythBusters. The behind-the-scenes reasoning for the change is unknown, but based on the following video message, it appears the plan isn’t to replace the cast members, but rather to take the show back to its season one roots that featured only Adam and Jamie as the mythbusting team:

While Savage has said in the past that 2015 was going to be a reboot for the series in terms of look, it’s surprising to learn the reboot also includes a cast shake-up. The Build Team’s been around since the second season, and it’s hard to imagine MythBusters without them. They will certainly be missed, but at least there will always be Netflix and YouTube to remind us of how awesome Kari, Grant, and Tory were.

There’s currently no word on what the trio will be up to next, or even if that next phase will feature them all working together, but whatever it is, we know we’ll be there to check it out.

I’m surprised by this move, and a little concerned this is a move toward more welding, manly, explosions, rather than the science is awesome feel of the old seasons. Watching the trio over the years added a narrative to the show, as they grew more confident and experienced in building, blowing up and methods of testing. I think the show really benefits from that narrative and wonder where it will go without it. And while I love the Adam vs. Jamie builds, I’ll miss the excellent example of team problem solving the trio demonstrated.
my favorite moments on Mythbusters was a mess that they tested. The one where they use the jet engine to blow over a bus, that was freaking amazing!

I for one am glad these three are being let go. I haven’t watched the show much since they came on board. I find Kari Byron extremely annoying. I never missed a show when it first started with just Jamie and Adam 🙂

I honestly liked the build team’s myths and their on screen dynamic more than I ever have Adam and Jamie. I’m really bummed about this.
Discovery commissions Mythbusters episodes from an Australian production house and distributor named Beyond International. A combination of fewer episodes ordered (13 over 12 mo. vs. previous 30 over 18 mo.) and difficulty with other Beyond properties resulted in full-year net profit after tax down 20%.

The show works MUCH better when Jamie and Adam were the head of a team. Now the show will lose a great deal of credibility without the rest of the team. Now it will look like it’s just two guys following their gut, without good science behind them.

I don’t like this idea one bit! I love Adam and Jamie, don’t get me wrong and it’s not about “oh the show is gonna suck without the Build Team.” Mythbusters will always be awesome because of the awesome work done on the show. I have no doubt that that aspect won’t change. But Kari, Grant, and Tory all deserve their place on Mythbusters too. At the very least, they deserve a show of their own. We love them, and the five of them are like family. We want to keep seeing them together and having fun blowing stuff up.
To be fair, it was also pretty harmless.

I would also like to add my vote for explosions as eye candy.
This was a really crappy and insulting way to let them go IMO. They even made out like that episode was a new one, when it was originally aired in the UK back in 2012! The only difference at all in this episode was the English announcer and the bombshell they delivered at the end.

Whether this has come from Jamie and Adam or from Discovery I think they’ve made a big mistake. They added a lot to the show. They deserved a WAY better send off and tribute than they got. And Mythbusters has been an island in a sea of bile that is Discovery programming for a long time now.
The show has been more hit and miss in recent years anyway, (that tweeting thing being a really annoying distraction for one thing) and the way they have done this has left a negative impression for me that may well have spoiled my interest in watching anymore.
