GOTHAM Showrunner Says No Harley Quinn for Now, But Maybe Some Prenatal Robin

With Gothams fall finale set to air this Monday, all eyes are now looking to the spring run of Fox’s Batman prequel series, . For the moment, we’ve been introduced to various future villains including young Penguin, young Riddler and young Catwoman. However, according to new reports and statements from showrunner Bruno Heller, the series isn’t done introducing the city’s renowned residents just yet, and now we can be certain of one for the spring (sort of), as well as one there are no plans for any time soon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, arcs are being set in motion for a sort-of Robin origin story that will show how the famed sidekick’s parents became a couple. “We’re going to do a prenatal origin story for Robin down the line,” Heller stated. “There’s an episode coming up where we learn how Robin’s parents got together.” However, the executive producer didn’t elaborate much further on the matter, instead opting to dive into another. We’ll keep you posted on who they cast as the gleam in Papa Grayson’s eye.

A big rumor that’s been circling fandom is the idea of the show introducing the famed Joker girlfriend, Harley Quinn. But Heller assures that won’t be happening… yet. “One of the things about the size and scope and ambitious of this production is that—it’s not that there’s lots of chefs in the kitchen, but there’s a lot of people with opinions and views and inside knowledge,” he explains. “That aspect of the show—which characters to use and when — is a source of constant discussion. And that may well have been an issue that came up and was dropped. We haven’t got Harley Quinn in it. Riddler’s girlfriend is coming up. And Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on, but so far no.”

While its casting is spot on in just about every way, Gotham is still working to find its footing among television’s comic-book roster. At times, the series is brilliant (especially when Robin Lord Taylor’s involved), but other times it falters. It’s good to know the writers are having serious conversations about what characters to introduce, and when to do it, but we also wish they’d spend an equal amount of time focusing on the characters they’ve already brought into the fold.

Gotham airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.

    Clayface and Killer Croc

  2. Amber says:

I want to see Harley Quinn, the joker, & poison ivy!

  3. Someguy says:

I don’t want to see a single known villain from Batman’s rogues gallery.  Its totally ridiculous the names they have thrown in at this point. Totally ruined the tragedy of Harvey Dent being Bruce’s childhood friend in the last episode. The way they are writing this show its no wonder Batman always beats the bad guys. By the time Batman suits up all his villains are in their midlife crises.

  4. Kat says:

Although quite pleased with the show right now, it is a bit of a disappointment knowing Harley won’t be around for awhile.

  5. Joesocwork says:

I’m okay as is.  If everyone is introduced and all of the action happens all at once, then what would be the point of Batman?

  6. Sparks says:

At this point in the game, I’ve stopped looking for some of the big name acts. For a brief second with the Balloon-killer I genuinely thought we were gonna see Prof. Pyg, but disappointment. Ftm, I don’t think we’ll need the likes of Joker or Harley for some time. I’m more curious to see how this gang war (and the game Cobblepot is playing) ends. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the show.
