GOTHAM Season 3 Will Have a Ton of New Villains

After the second season finale of Gotham earlier this week, the streets of Gotham City are only going to get more dangerous next season as even more Batman villains come to town.

While speaking to Comic Book Resources, Gotham executive producer John Stephens called out several of the series’ newest adversaries by name. “We’ll be seeing Mad Hatter in season 3,” said Stephens. “We’ll be seeing the Tweedle Brothers, too, if we’re going to bring the Hatter in. In line with the Court of Owls, we’ll be seeing Talon. And, we should be seeing Solomon Grundy.”

talons

Out of the villains mentioned by Stephens, Talon has the biggest potential to be one of the series’ new big bads. Talon is one of the more recent additions to Batman’s mythos, and he’s one of the top assassins and enforcers for the Court of Owls, the mysterious group that secretly controls Gotham City. The Court tends to send Talon to do its dirty work. And if the show follows the source material, then there will be more than one Talon.

Solomon Grundy

Solomon Grundy also represents a major physical threat on the show. He’s a super strong zombie from DC’s comic book universe who is named after an old nursery rhyme. Grundy’s appearance on Gotham could easily build on Hugo Strange’s experiments from the second season of Gotham. A version of Grundy actually appeared two seasons ago on Arrow, but we’d love to see Grundy’s new incarnation be closer to his comic book counterpart.

The Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter is the best known Batman villain listed by Stephens. As his chosen name suggests, the Mad Hatter was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and he even appeared in the Batman TV series that aired in the ‘60s, as well as in various animated adaptations. The Mad Hatter frequently uses mind control technology disguised as oversized playing cards.

The Tweedle Brothers

And finally, the Tweedle brothers actually predate the Mad Hatter in the comics by a few years. They are also Lewis Carroll themed villains who often team up with the Mad Hatter or even the Joker on occasion. Originally, the Tweedle brothers had no powers except for their fat bodies which allowed them to bounce like balls. It’s a pretty safe assumption that probably won’t be a part of their Gotham incarnations.

Gotham season 3 will premiere this fall.
