GOTHAM Casts HOUSE OF CARDS Alum as Mr. Freeze

Move over, Arnold Schwarzenegger — there’s a new Mr. Freeze heading our way, and he’s about to cool things down on Gotham!

Fox’s DC Comics drama has just cast the iconic supervillain role of Victor Fries, aka “Mr. Freeze”, and he’s trading in the deadly politics of Washington, D.C. for the equally-deadly criminal underworld in Gotham city.

Nerdist has confirmed that House of Cards alum Nathan Darrow has landed the recurring role of Victor Fries on Fox’s Batman prequel series. Beginning in the November 30th episode, Victor is one of Gotham’s preeminent cryogenics engineers. Though ferociously smart and exceedingly capable in his work, Victor struggles to make meaningful connections with others. The one exception is his wife, Nora, who has tragically fallen ill with a terminal disease.

Victor’s love for Nora knows no bounds, but as Nora’s condition worsens, Victor goes to extreme measures to figure out a way to freeze her before she dies. This harrowing journey leads to his transformation into the legendary DC villain Mr. Freeze. Sounds like Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) better stock up on winter gear before things get too chilly!

Darrow is best known for playing Frank Underwood’s (Kevin Spacey) bodyguard/secret lover Meechum in Netflix’s original series House of Cards. He can also be seen in the upcoming movie Wizard of Lies with Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as well as playing a recurring role in the new TV show Billions opposite Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis.

Mr. Freeze was previously played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin and by George Sanders on the 1960s TV series. Does Darrow have what it takes to take on this already-iconic role? Will he be able to upstage Cameron Monaghan’s already-infamous non-Joker Jerome? Hit the comments section below to weigh in now!
