GOTHAM: 10 Spoilers from ‘Rise of the Villains: Scarification’

DC Comics is about to welcome an all-new supervillain to its ranks: Firefly!

Now, yes, we know exactly what you’re thinking: Firefly is actually a very well-known villain in the DC Comics lore, spanning from 1952 until today. But Gotham is putting a new spin on the old character in tonight’s all-new episode, “Rise of the Villains: Scarification,” and it’s a twist that is making us go, “Yasss!”

Because Gotham is introducing the first-ever female Firefly. Yeah, you read that right: a female Firefly. It’s about time!

Tonight’s episode of the Fox comic book fare will introduce viewers to the Pike brothers, known as the most notorious arsonists Gotham city has ever seen. But it’s actually their younger sister Bridgit (played by Michelle Veintimilla) who is going to be the one to watch out for.

Gotham

Nerdist watched the action-packed episode early, so here are 10 spoilers from the hour.

  • The episode is going to give new meaning to the title “garbage man.” Related: it does not pay to be the secret-keeper of a multi-billion dollar company. Let’s just hope that position comes with good health insurance.
  • If you’re squeamish, you might want to close your eyes for the first few minutes of the episode. Just a fair warning.
  • The Penguin is still not doing well after he learned that Theo and Tabitha Galavan kidnapped his mother. In fact, this is probably the worst we have ever seen Penguin, including that time where he almost died at the hands of Gordon all the way back in season one.
  • We finally get to peak inside the head of femme fatale Tabitha … although only for a moment. But hearing her perspective on the Maniax is hilariously refreshing.
  • Get ready to see where most of the villains in Gotham get their weapons. That scene provides one of the funniest sequences this show has ever done. We’re still laughing.
  • Unit Alpha of the GCPD strike force wastes no time in trying to take out Penguin’s organization. Gordon clearly hasn’t given much thought to what is going to happen when they finally arrest Penguin and he spills all of Gordon’s dirty secrets. But that’s a story for another episode.
  • Edward Nygma wastes no time telling everyone he knows about his new relationship with Kristen Kringle … and his first course of action is scheduling a double date with Gordon and Lee. You can just imagine how thrilled Gordon is about that.
  • Theo Galavan also doesn’t waste any time in trying to shore up his public endorsements now that he’s announced his bid for mayor. But his first request doesn’t exactly go as planned.
  • While the Penguin may seem like he’s left without any options other than to follow Theo, he’s not as helpless as he seems. This guy didn’t rise from Fish Mooney’s umbrella-holder to the King of Gotham in a few months for nothing!
  • This week’s episode will finally reveal why Theo is so hell bent on getting revenge for his ancestors. Prepare yourself for a lot of eye-opening flashbacks.
  • The new female Firefly’s origin story will not be anything like what you’re expecting. In fact, you may even believe there’s no way Bridgit Pike could ever set fire to anything. But just wait until the final moments of the episode, and everything will be explained.
