New Final Fantasy XV screenshots have surfaced on the web showing off some of the game’s sword-clashing effects during combat sequences. That’s right, I definitely just said “sword-clashing effects.” What does that even mean and why is it worth pointing out? Trust me, I’m not quite sure why I took away such an observation from these seemingly simple images, and am twice as befuddled over the fact that I was quite impressed with what I saw (sword-spark effects FTW!).

While there isn’t much new to see as far as characters go–though we do get a glimpse of the enemies that the bros of FFXV will be up against, as well as a peek at one of the game’s gargantuan creatures–the screens work wonders in showing off how graphically detailed the character models and environments of the game will be. Drool over the screen for yourself right below.

We found out last week that Final Fantasy XV will feature a true open-world, and not just open-world gameplay. This is good news for folks who voiced extreme displeasure with Final Fantasy XIII‘s linearity.
