If you are a true comedy nerd, the name Bill Hicks needs no further explanation. But whether you know all about the too-brief life and career of the groundbreaking and uncompromising comic or you’re new to him, you’ll want to see a new documentary, American: The Bill Hicks Story. And if you’re in Los Angeles (yeah, I know, sorry, it’s another L.A. thing), you will definitely want to see it on Sunday, April 17th at the Laemmle Sunset 5 for a special screening at 7 pm. Friend of Nerdist Colin Hanks will be hosting the screening and a Q&A afterwards with the filmmakers and Hicks’ friend, producer/director Kevin Booth.
You can buy tickets at americanthemovie.com. If you’re into comedy at all, and you can get to West Hollywood on Sunday, this is a must.
Trailer? Why, yes:

I will be there, if for no other reason than to pay homage to one of the greats.

Yeah, this is a gem. I saw it last year at the local film festival (Melbourne, Australia) with a fellow Bill Hicks tragic and a BH newbie. Both loved it!
