Glassily Glazed Cakes are a Mouthwatering Paradox

Dessert is usually a simple yes or no question. To answer, you run a quick equation that includes variables like how much exercise you’ve been getting, how delicious the dessert sounds, and perhaps how elastic your waistband is. But if you’re deciding on whether or not to eat Russian baker Olga Noskova’s cakes, that equation is likely to break down and provide a contradictory answer. Not because of how you may feel or how her desserts may taste, but because they look like this:

Noskova, an economy major who began baking professionally in 2015, has racked up close to 500,000 followers on Instagram, and it’s obvious to see why. Her cakes — spotted on Laughing Squid and featured in the image gallery below — are the epitome of culinary artistry. Each one of her creations has a marbled and glassy surface so flawless every one reflects their surroundings like mirrors.

While these desserts are doubtlessly delicious, how could you possibly bring yourself to cut through something so carefully crafted, cleaned and polished? The cakes may make mouths water but you can eat their beauty with your eyes. There is something that is platonically ideal about these desserts; something satisfying not only for the salivary glands, but also for the soul.

Perhaps the only way to destroy them for your own tasty pleasure would be to remind yourself that they start out just like any other treat: a sticky, sloppy, imperfect mess.

What do you think about these glassy and glistening cakes? Could you somehow convince yourself that they should be devoured, or are they simply too flawless to break down for something as trivial as life-sustaining energy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
