GLADIATOR’s Honest Trailer Is the Bottom Line Because Maximus Says So

A total bad ass, beloved by the common people, who filled arenas to cheer him as he took on a cheating, evil authority figure in battle? No, we’re not talking about Stone Cold Steve Austin, because instead of a wrestling ring this guy got it done in the Roman Colosseum.

Because Maximus 3:16 says…well the comparison comes up a little short there since he never did create a pithy catchphrase, but as the latest Honest Trailer from the Screen Junkies reminds us, Gladiator still has the ability to get us jacked for the arena.

Even though the Russell Crowe-led Best Picture winner from director Ridley Scott may have resulted in a bunch of inferior “sword and sandal” movies, and even if it isn’t among the greatest films to ever take the big prize, it was still an awesome movie with some great performances, like Joaquin Phoenix as the real-but-fictionalized Roman Emperor Commodus, who, as they point out, was basically a failed Jaime Lannister.

Sometimes it feels as though Gladiator gets unfair criticism because it won the Academy Award for the best movie, but as this trailer points out the early 2000s weren’t exactly brimming with mankind’s finest work. Like Russell Crowe’s music career.

But you know what? Who cares if it was the best movie ever made or not? Gladiator doesn’t owe anyone an apology, because at the end of the day it did what any good movie should do, since we were, in fact, entertained, and that’s all I got to say about that! What?
