You don’t need to watch Gilmore Girls for long to learn how important food is the series. Lorelai and Rory aren’t cooks so they order take out and eat at Luke’s diner regularly; they have movie nights with an epic amount of snacks; their relationship with Emily and Richard mostly plays out over Friday night dinners; Lorelai’s best friend Sookie is a chef. You get the idea. So really, a Gilmore Girls-inspired cookbook is just what the world needs, and Kristi Carlson is trying to fund such a bookâEat Like a Gilmoreâthrough Kickstarter.
But first, in case you need some additional proof about the role of food in Gilmore Girls, I present Exhibits A – D:
As you might guess from the Kickstarter part, Eat Like a Gilmore is a fan project (read: not officially sanctioned by Warner Bros.). Kristi had the idea last summer, and has been working hard on creating all her favorite edibles from the seriesâso much so that she’s even got a recipe tester. The cookbook will have at least 60 recipes presented in a hardcover cookbook with pictures (I mention that because I hate when cookbooks don’t have photos). She’s asking for $20,000 to cover ingredients, photography, printingâall the usual costs associated with making a book.
Because Gilmore Girls includes all sorts of food from fried snacks to Emily’s elegant meals, the book will have three partsâincluding recipes from a small town diner like Luke’s, Friday night family dinner delights, and even a menu that would be, say, served at a cozy inn. I’m sold: I’d love to make a list of all the food mentioned on the show and dive in.
Head to Kickstarter to back the project. Rewards include getting a recipe emailed to you, getting a PDF copy of the book, pre-ordering a cookbook, or even having Kristi come to your house and make food from the cookbook for you and your friends.
Will you be backing Eat Like a Gilmore? Did this post make anyone else hungry? Talk to me in the comments.
