GHOSTBUSTERS: THE BOARD GAME Has Us Feeling So Funky

As much as we love The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series, it’s more than a little unfair that the film which spawned it never generated the same amount of toys and merchandise. (Something to do with having to pay the film’s cast more money to use their likenesses. Go figure.) And while there’s still no plans to plaster Bill Murray’s Venkman on the front of a lunchbox, a few innovative souls have taken it upon themselves to design an official Ghostbusters board game featuring the 1984 masterpiece’s core team — Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zeddemore — in reasonably faithful interpretations rendered by Dan Schoening, who illustrates IDW’s Ghostbusters comic book series. Launched as a Kickstarter project that has already more than doubled its original pledge goal, there are still three weeks left to back the board game’s campaign; with two levels of pledge left — paranormal (for the game itself) and mass hysteria (for the game plus cool incentives like glow-in-the-dark dice, a giclee print, and a super-sized Stay Puft Marshmallow Man boss figure). There’s also a special level for retailers. But the game alone offers a ton of goodies for fans. Just check out its contents…

Ghostbusters

Yeah, they had me at PKE Meter… Hey, since The Real Ghostbusters resulted in a whopping three board games (by Milton Bradley, Casper, and Triotoys), I’d say we’re long overdue for this sort of ecto-entertainment experience. But what do all of my Ghostbusters groupies and gamers think? Can you see yourselves getting addicted to this thing or is it missing some vital element you deem necessary for repeat playability? Let us know what you think below!

Umm, is this licensed? Because, if not, these people are totally getting sued.

I love Cryptozoic games and their staff.  I just hesitate to put $80 into an unpainted miniatures game where you have to pay MORE than $80 to get the full experience (all the scenarios/miniatures).  I realize that miniature games run expensive, but I can buy 2-3 quality games for the same price.  Hate to pass up this Kickstarter.

Why are the Ghostbusters all dudes??

      Because this isn’t the remake

Jesus Christ… Not everything in the world has to be razed and rebuilt. Modern ideas? Great, put them in a new movie, fine, no problem…

BUT IT’S OK TO KEEP LIKING THINGS THAT WERE MADE IN A TIME WITH DIFFERENT SOCIAL STANDARDS.
Are you also one of the people who thinks Huck Finn shouldn’t be read because it uses the N word? Progress isn’t going to come to a screeching halt because you failed to call out the gender bias in a movie from thirty years ago. I’m sorry, but you’re not THAT powerful, internet person.
