When there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who ya gonna call? Graham Norton! The new Ghostbusters film comes out July 15, 2016 and the ghost-hunting ladies are out doing the television press rounds. (They recently appeared with the surviving cast of the original Ghostbusters films on late night TV, basically getting a very public thumbs up.) Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon showed up on The Graham Norton Show, where something goofy is pretty much guaranteed to happen. This time around, director Paul Feig who always wears a suit to work on set–no, he really does–got himself slimed after asking the ladies to perform a little ditty.
EW posted the video from the show where Feig mentioned the little matter of the overwhelmingly sexist reaction to the Ghostbusters trailer. Now, before you freak out, yes, some of the negative comments were because, frankly, the trailers weren’t very good. However, we can probably all agree that most of it was a reaction to a remake of a classic comedy, and more so because of the fact that the leads are all women. The first trailer was the most disliked trailer in YouTube history. Feig actually joked about it, saying, âSince we are all in the business of ruining menâs childhoods, Kristen and Melissa came up with this way to really enrage men, which would be to do the folk lady version of Ghostbusters, so I would like them to perform that for you.”
Wiig and McCarthy began a warbling version of Ray Parker Jr.‘s Ghostbusters theme song that will upset you on many levels, despite the glimpse of McCarthy’s fabulous shoes. Seriously, they are things of beauty. (If you want to further mess up your brain, make sure you check out this remix of the video for the song. No, I will not pay your therapy bills.) They did this in exchange for sliming Feig, something that Jones repeatedly called for as soon as he appeared remotely on the screen. That is, until it looked like it was really going to happen. “Not in his suit! He will die!,” she gasped. Norton’s solution? “We’ll just aim for his face.”
Poor Feig, who was a very good sport, was hit with a bright green slime that looks like Hi-C Ecto-Cooler. Does anyone else find it difficult to drink something that color? That can’t be doing anything good to your insides. Check out the video and let us know what you think. Are you having Nickelodeon flashbacks? Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and let us know if you’re going to see the film. If you’ve got issues with doing a remake of a beloved movie from your childhood, or the trailer didn’t really do it for you, feel free to tell us about it. (We’ve posted it below if you’d like to refresh your memory.) If you love it and can’t wait to see the ladies in action, shout it from the rooftops. Maybe keep the sexist stuff to yourself, though.
