Ghost Ghirls Ain’t Afraid of No Ghosts!

About three weeks ago I was walking to grab lunch in Silverlake (Los Angeles, CA). I was stopped at a crosswalk waiting for the red hand of death to disappear and the little man of life to indicate my freedom to cross, when I noticed a peculiar, badly designed poster on the pole to my left.

Now… maybe I’m a sucker, but I’d like to think I’m not. I’m pretty hip to viral marketing, love a good ARG (Alternative Reality Game), but I’ll be damned if I didn’t think this was a legitimate poster, made by two, mildly insane hipster chicks in Silverlake. Perhaps it’s that I’m a writer, often given to flights of fancy, but I wanted to believe in this sooooo bad.

Long story short: I’m an idiot. Or, a better version of that story is that the marketing behind this funny, bizarre, twisted web-series, Ghost Ghirls, that takes its tone from shows like Medium and Ghost Hunters is a stroke of brilliant, subtle genius.

Created by Jeremy Konner (also the brains behind Drunk History), Amanda Lund, and Maria Blasucci, the 12-episode series, which debuted at http://screen.yahoo.com/ghost-ghirls/ last month, centers on two young female ghostbusters Heidi (Lund) and Angelica (Blasucci), who attempt to solve the mysteries behind paranormal phenomena.

Recently, the actresses and producer Jack Black sat down with What’s Trending for an interview about the project, their personal feelings on ghosts, and the Wild West feel of creating a series for the web:
