Shake off all the pain you felt at the end of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and brace yourself for Mockingjay – Part 1. It’s time to take our first look at the upcoming film, and that includes seeing Julianne Moore as President Alma Coin. Yes, there’s another person in charge besides President Snow. He may control the Capitol and most of Panem, but Coin is the leader of District 13.
The wrecked district is integral to the next part of the story, and Coin has a big role in the future of Panem and in regards to Katniss Everdeen’s development. Though I was already convinced Moore was suited for the role, seeing images of her as the formidable character and hearing her speak about the state of Panem has me one hundred percent sold.
Her description of the appeal of Katniss absolutely nails it.
I find the fact that the first batch of official images don’t include Katniss, Peeta, and Gale to be interesting. Besides President Coin, the first look shows Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), and Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy). Those are all familiar faces, but they’re also all part of the supporting cast.
Since Mockingjay focuses on Katniss as a symbol of a revolution, I think we can expect the film to have more of an ensemble vibe. Katniss will inevitably be at the forefront – it’s her story – but the picture is much bigger now and the stakes are higher.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will hit theaters on November 21, 2014.

I thought Coin should be played by Tilda Swinton.
It’s nice to see an actor doing some research on the series…Now we just need a trailer. http://filmcutting.com/the-hunger-games-mockingjay-part-1-first-look/
