Get Your Engines Revving With a Look at the Cars in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

I wish I could explain what it is about Mad Max: Fury Road that has me so excited for it. Details of the story are rather unknown and it’s not like the franchise is as big of a cultural phenomenon as Star Wars or The Avengers are. If I ever discover why I have such a visceral reaction of glee any time I see the trailers, I will be sure to report it, but for now I can instead report on some of the awesome custom cars built for the movie. Car and Driver reported an exclusive look at these new contraptions, and they all look pretty awesome.

The design aesthetic for the franchise started, as one would expect, in the first film. The film’s apocalypse seemed to have occurred in 1977, since no car used for the film dated any later than that. Granted, the film came out in 1979, so filming would have happened in ’77/’78. Those details, however, are logic and not film canon. It seems George Miller is a stickler for keeping with a previously established design, as many of the cars are cobbled together from ones made between the 1930s and the 1970s, as seen in the previous films.

The original Mad Max used a combinations of American, Australian, and Japanese car manufacturers for their films’ various vehicles, but one car stood out among them as the quintessential Mad Max car: the 1974 Ford Falcon used as Max’s Police Interceptor. The Falcon is the only car that has appeared in all three of the Mel Gibson Mad Max films, and Tom Hardy will continue that trend in Fury Road. Even rusted out and patched together, it is still a beautiful vehicle.

Does this make you want to buy an older muscle car more or less than the Fast And Furious franchise? Take a look at the full gallery below and let us know in the comments!
