If “moisture is the essence of wetness and wetness is the essence of beauty,” then Kristen Wiig is the essence of comedy, and comedy is the essence of Zoolander 2.
Since its release in 2001, Zoolander has become an iconic comedy with mermaids and mermen alike. It seems as if almost every line of dialog from the brilliant Ben Stiller brainchild has been embedded in pop culture zeitgeist as a meme or GIF, and perhaps most importantly, it has taught children everywhere that they too—if they really put their minds to it—can turn left. All of this means that the bar for Zoolander 2 is set extremely high. But, if this latest teaser featuring Kristen Wiig is any indication, the sequel is going to be just as hee-lie-ree-oos as the first movie.
In this new clip, which is essentially a faux infomercial, we get our first in-depth look at Wiig’s character, Alexanya Atoz, who’s the face of the “House of Atoz Beauty Laboratory,” as well as horribly botched cosmetic surgery. She’s hawking something called “Youth Milk,” which is a “special lotion you can pump all over your face… to help you turn back time and be baby again.” Alexanya’s atrocious accent causes her to mispronounce words (“labia-tory”), which, when coupled with Wiig’s pained facial expressions, makes for one of the most hilarious teaser clips in recent may-em-or-i.
Zoolander 2 stars the key players from the first film, including Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell as Mugatu, as well as a heap of new talent like Penelope Cruz, Fred Armisen, Benedict Cumberbatch, and of course, Wiig. The sequel is again helmed by Stiller, and will do a fierce runway strut into theaters on February 12th.
