George R.R. Martin Goes Full Zombie in Syfy’s Z NATION

For some Game of Thrones fans, it’s long been a fantasy to have author George R.R. Martin chained to his desk until he finishes up the final two books in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. Those fans are gonna get their wish this fall, but not in the way that they may have envisioned it.

Martin took a break from writing to appear as himself on Syfy’s post-zombie apocalypse series Z Nation during the upcoming second season. As you can see from the pictures, Martin did not survive the zombie plague and he has become one of them!

Martin’s guest appearance on Z Nation will come in the eighth episode of the second season, as he and other celebrity zombies are imprisoned by a new character called The Collector. As part of the gag, Martin’s walking dead counterpart is said to have finished “A Promise of Spring,” which is a reference to Martin’s “A Dream of Spring,” his seventh book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series which will presumably wrap up his story. We hope.

“I just want to prove to my fans that even in the zombie apocalypse, the Song of Ice and Fire books will still come out!” exclaimed Martin.

Martin seems to have a good sense of humor about watching himself get killed off on television. Earlier this summer, Martin made a cameo appearance in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! where he was promptly dispatched by sharks…and even benedded (that’s getting beheaded like Ned).

The second season of Z Nation will premiere this Friday, September 11 on Syfy.
