George R.R. Martin Finally Admits [SPOILER] is His Favorite Character (Obviously)

Not to be a total jerk, but: we all sorta knew this one, right? Like, for how secretive, winding, and unpredictable George R.R. Martin can be as far as an author goes, his own penchant for one particular character — his favorite, he’s admitted after a bevy of pestering — has never come into question for us. But now we can all rest assured knowing one thing to be true: Tyrion Lannister is totally GRRM’s favorite character from A Song of Ice and Fire. I mean OBVIOUSLY!

His love for “bastards and broken things” aside, the character embodied by Peter Dinklage on HBO’s Game of Thrones has always shone a little bit brighter than the rest — even in the books. Besides, the author has already gone on record saying he has a fondness for Tyrion in the past.

But favorites! The author took to his LiveJournal page (because he’s equal parts adorably quaint and terribly old fashioned even by Internet standards) to finally put the whole mess to rest:

“I can’t give you an exact count… but I must have done at least fifty interviews over the past two months. Maybe as many as a hundred,” the author quipped. “Sitting around a hotel room talking doesn’t sound so hard, but it can be grueling. Especially when they all ask the same damn questions.”

Of all of those questions, it was apparently the favorite character one that drove the author to drink (metaphorically speaking), if this outburst-y comment is to be believed: “Tyrion is my favorite character. Okay? OKAY? Can we PLEASE put that one to rest?? I love all my viewpoint characters, Arya and Sansa and Bran, Jon Snow and Brienne, Arianne and Cersei and Jaime, Theon, even Victarion and the Damphair, ALL of them, but I love Tyrion the bestest. Tyrion son of Tywin, the Imp, second son of Casterly Rock. How many bloody times do I need to say it?? I swear, from now on, whenever anybody asks me, ‘who is you favorite character,’ I am going to start naming characters from other people’s books. Cugel the Clever. Flashman. Gatsby. Hotspur. Solomon Kane. A different one each time… ”

So, uh, there you have it. And maybe don’t ask anymore?

Who’s YOUR favorite GoT character? Viewpoint or otherwise — no matter to us! Leave it in the comments.

THAT is one hell of an interesting idea! Now, I know some Targaryens are immune to fire, namely Daenaerys, but is there indeed evidence of Targaryens being returned to life from death by fire in the novels or show?
