George Miller Will Not Direct MAN OF STEEL 2, Hopes Next Film is ‘Very Small’

Despite what many fans of this year’s runaway hit Mad Max: Fury Road had hoped, director George Miller has officially confirmed that he will not be directing a stand alone sequel to Man of Steel for DC and Warner Bros. In an interview with Digital Spy, Miller said he was talking to both Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment about possibly working on one of their films, but ultimately he has not signed on to do so. This is not because of any issues between the director and the companies, or rumored bad blood over the failed Justice League Mortal film, but because of how daunting of a task Fury Road was for him.

The 70-year-old director has spent the better part of twenty years putting together his fourth film in the Mad Max world while also directing other films, and even when it finally came time to shoot Fury Road he had to deal with the stress and frustrations of pulling off amazing stunts and long days in the desert. Miller is quoted as saying, “I hope the next film I make is a very small film without any special effects and not many stunts.” After putting out an opus like Fury Road, not many people can blame the man for wanting some down time. I mean, you don’t win the Super Bowl and then play another championship game the next day…right?

Miller did, however, say that he would still love to be involved in making a superhero movie down the road, due to his love of the mythological aspects of the genre; these films are “always something [he is] interested in.” He also offered words of appreciation for Snyder’s take on Superman and the world they have crafted. So, while Man of Steel 2 may not be his next film, we can’t count Miller out of the comic book world just yet.

If not Man of Steel, what comic book property would you want to see Miller put to film? Let us know in the comments below!
