Which Generation 1 TRANSFORMERS Will Join the BUMBLEBEE Movie?

Last weekend, Michael Bay‘s Transformers: The Last Knight hit the top spot at the box office, even though it didn’t quite match the previous films in the series. Supposedly, this will be Bay’s final Transformers movie, but he’s said as much many times before and always ends up coming back for more. Even if the Bayhem is over for now, the future of the Transformers is in the past. The upcoming Bumblebee spin-off film is jumping back in time to the ’80s, and today’s Nerdist News is looking at the other Generation 1 Robots in Disguise who may show up as well!

Join host and Targetmaster Transformer, Jessica Chobot, as she examines the comments that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura made while speaking with Collider. He said that the Bumblebee movie “is a very distinctive departure from what you’ve been seeing so far… The objective of that movie is to develop more time with less robots in a way, and to go back to 1985 and go back to sort of the original heritage if you would of the Transformers. G1.”

Transformers Devastation Bumblebee

Well, we do love those Generation 1 Transformers! At the top of our list would be Soundwave, a Decepticon who could transform into a tape deck. In Bay’s films, Soundwave was a satellite and a jet, but hopefully we’ll get to see Soundwave in his G1 form. Some of the other G1 Autobots like Wheeljack, Mirage, and Prowl would also be welcome. Perhaps even a wilder character like Nightbeat could appear. As far as we can tell, Nightbeat is the only Transformer who thinks he’s a private detective!

In a separate interview with ComicBook.com, di Bonaventura expressed his eagerness to see the cars of the ’80s get their due in the movie. Hopefully that means Bumblebee can reclaim his classic form as a Volkswagon Beetle. Even more encouragingly, director Travis Knight is said to be going for more of an Iron Giant feel with the Bumblebee movie. If this giant robot franchise can find its heart like Iron Giant, then that will ultimately be a great thing for the franchise.
