All of These GDPR Privacy Policy Emails Have Inspired a Brilliant Meme

If you’ve spent any time checking your email recently, you may have noticed an increase in the already annoyingly high number of emails various websites are sending you. Facebook, Twitter, that one random app you don’t use anymore that still messages you anyway — everybody’s doing it. CNN blames it on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a set of new laws protecting the personal data of people living in the European Union that just went into effect. And sure enough, the Internet has already turned this nuisance into a brilliant meme.

Many prominent Twitter users were quick to capitalize on the trend, including Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson. Considering how divisive the film was among fans and critics, just imagine how it would have been if the opening crawl had looked like this:

Johnson wasn’t the Internet’s only Star Wars presence to notice the meme. The popular Twitter user @DepressedDarth had some pressing news to share with his fellow imperials.

Then again, not all of the participants were solely focused on Star Wars. Daniel José Older, for example, turned to Mace Windu’s (Samuel L. Jackson) previous life in Pulp Fiction.

But for the most parts, folks were just trying to have as much fun as they possibly could at the GDPR’s expense.

Oh no, now I’ve got Kelis’ earworm “Milkshake” stuck in my head. This meme is the worst.
